High waisted Flares.

I will never really forget the time when it was uber-cool to wear flared jeans. Like total crazy Bee-Gee's inspired flares which were extremely low with super long flares which would sweep the ground one walked on. The concept of flares still sends shivers up my spine and I don't even know if that is a good thing or not. You can pretty much imagine my surprise when there was an image of Keira Knightley wearing a pair of uber-high waisted flared jeans landed into my inbox. Like sure, this style is great for those who have a very nice curvacious booty and also for those who don't feel comfortable bearing all in a pair of super skinny skinnies. Would I really throw away my morals and the past 90's fashion pet-hate for this trend? I'll keep you updated.

Where's ours?

It is absolutely crazy to think that in the US, there designers for Target ranges are literally huge international names designing for Target (not that there is anything at all wrong with our own Collette Dinnagan for DFT in Aust). I mean, it is hard enough for us down under to be able to purchase a Botkier handbag and just today I received an email with exclusive images of the latest American Designers for Target which is indeed Botkier who has designed an exclusive handbags line for Tarjay! I mean, since when can we wear Botkier handbags let alone Botkier for Target? Oh well, I suppose our friends in the US must be so jealous. I mean, whilst they have Botkier designed handbags (which I am sure everyone will go crazy for when it officially comes out) back in Australia, we're able to wear frilly Collette Dinnagan for Target knickers and bras. Go figure.

Are you Jealous right now?

Question: Guess which young teeny boppers' dressing room this is?

celebrity photo gallery main image - The Cyrus family takes In Style magazine on a tour of their North Hollywood home for the June 2008 issue.

Answer: Miley Cyrus. We are so jealous right now. If only our office wardrobe looked half as good as that. We'd be over the moon.

Combining of Contrasts

As much as I absolutely hate to admit it, right now I am such a sucker for the concept of "Underwear being the new outerwear" . I just love the idea of soft camisoles with delicate features and lace edgings to contrast ever-so-sharply with the more stronger fitting and sharp tailoring of the more slicker tuxedo jackets (a new personal favourite of mine) accompanied with a pair of thin Jimmy Choo stillettos and some bohemian bangles and silk neckscarves to give it some cultural edge. And now you know what I am adorning myself with completely these days. You have to admit that it is truly a "combining of contrasts" look which takes the concept of eccentric to a new level of elegance.

Fashion Q &A

IN MY INBOX:

Hey Lisa,

I'm currently in a desperate urge of purchasing a tote bag. Question is, what SHOULD I buy? The last thing I want is to drop a fortune on something that I'm going to regret. Nothing too formal, but not too trashy... slightly edgy...but a statement.. yep that's how I want it. Please Help!

Thanks a million darl

Joody
ANSWER: Oh my goodness. Don't we just love handbags? I know I have an enormous weakness for handbags right now and sometimes the pay check can only demand my attention on the more Iconic styles than the oh-so-fabulous trend pieces which are coming out season after season. When you said "Nothing too formal, but not too trashy...slightly edgy but a statement", there seemed to be this little button which went off in my head and started screaming that you are in desperate need of some Yves Saint Laurent. I love the YSL Tribute bag and the YSL Downtown tote. They are such oversized classic favourites of mine which have that hint of edginess which pure sophistication and it is also such an Iconic piece which can be recognised miles away for that effortlessly timeless appeal. If the price tag is a bit much, I did manage to find a YSL Tribute tote from neimanmarcus.com for a discounted $1,871.00 compared to the original $2,495.00 price tag. Is that convincing enough?

Just one of those days

Do you ever have those days or nights where you are invited to a fabulous party or social event and the only reason you truly don’t want to go is just to save yourself the trouble of splashing out a few hundred (or thousand!) dollars on some fabulous designer dress which you pretty much wont wear anytime after this social event? Call it cold feet or whatever you want because I totally sent a RSVP to this UK magazine’s social networking party and right now, I just cannot be bothered to go out and buy something pretty and sparkly and red to wear as the whole concept of dressing up is just really getting to me. Perhaps it is the weather which is dreadful and miserable leaving no room for any fashion risk taking (of the good-standout variety) but rather we huddle together in packs (they say “safety in numbers”) or if the room is lovely and warm, we dread the moment it is time to leave and walk into the bleak shadows of cold. So I have figured what I want to wear which will exemplify that sense of sophistication and thankfully enough, it isn’t going to cost an arm and a leg for an outfit which can be re-worn together or separately at anything else that follows. Sure black is usually quite a no-show at parties, well; that is if you really want to stand out and usually it is perceived as quite a sombre colour (for a one-colour ensemble). I think I will bask in my fashion glory at the moment and fingers crossed that my cigarette black cropped pants by Dolce and Gabbana will arrive safety to my office and the vintage black beaded top I have hiding (after months of black being a no-show) will decide to peep out and shine tonight.

Love it or Hate it

All it takes is a gown

I was browsing on net-a-porter just recently and there is a huge sale going on and I don’t know about you but personally, when it comes to sales I just love to buy something which I would never dream of owning otherwise. Sound familiar? It doesn’t have to be something which I’ve desperately wanted but moreover, something along the lines of “on-sale-and-fabulous” and definitely not “on-sale-and-you-know-it”. Anyways I was skimming and what caught my attention were the plentiful designer gowns which were all reduced enormously. And that has made me question the fact that I may own absolutely everything in this world but there is definitely one thing missing and it is the gown. Pretty silly though isn’t it? I really don’t have anywhere to wear a gown to. I mean, we get invited to red-carpet events All the TIME so really…we’re trying to be modest here, only kidding. But wouldn’t it just be amazing to fling open a wardrobe full of beautiful floor length pieces? It’s weird because nothing really defines a ‘gown’. I originally thought that a gown was those big Cinderella dresses but it seems as though time has transcended that definition to fit many styles and seasons. Like a summer gown can also be a printed dress or a maxi dress. And a cocktail gown can be something which reaches your knees. Weird isn’t it? Oh well, I really don’t know about buying a gown at the moment but choosing which ones are just couture-fabulous is just a whole heap of fun altogether.
