For those of you not caught up, here's the saga in a nutshell: the first lady wore British label Alexander McQueen to the State Dinner with China last week. Oscar de la Renta called her out for wearing a non-American designer and the CFDA released a statement expressing its disappointment in her choice. Meanwhile, Michelle donned all-American Rachel Roy to the State of the Union and we thought we'd gotten over all of the fashion drama. But then Cathy Horyn named Mrs. Obama the victim of a sartorial witch hunt and we just couldn't resist asking Joan Rivers what she thought of the whole thing.
And now, FLOTUS has spoken. In an interview with Robin Roberts of "Good Morning America" on Friday, the anchorwoman ventured to bring up the issue among important topics like Obama's reelection campaign, support for military families and Let's Move!
What was Michelle's response? She said, "Look, women, wear what you love. That's all I can say. That's my motto. I wear what I like because...I gotta be in the dress, so..."
First Lady Michelle Obama hosted this year's National Design Awards winners for a luncheon at the White House. According to pool reports, Michelle wore a bright pink pantsuit by Isabel Toledo for the occasion. Among the 144 attendees were Graydon Carter of Vanity Fair, Stefano Tonchi of W, Jenna Lyons of J. Crew, Sally Singer of the New York Times and Glenda Bailey of Harper's Bazaar. Michelle was seated next to Tim Gunn, which she sounded excited about, saying "How cool!" via HuffPo: Victoria Beckham has clothed Blake Lively and Jennifer Hudson...and Sarah Jessica Parker even went clad in a Beckham frock to visit the White House. But Victoria hasn't yet realized her ultimate dream: dressing Michelle Obama.
At Elton John's Oscar party, Beckham exclaimed, "I would love to dress Mrs. Obama absolutely absolutely absolutely! I just think she's incredible and she's a very strong woman and she's beautiful."
She added, "I love women and I just want to make women feel good and beautiful and it's just been a huge compliment that ladies have enjoyed wearing my dresses and they look great! It just goes to show they can flatter women of all different shapes and sizes, all different heights, and that's what it's about. It's about creating an illusion and having a great cut."

Each of Anna's sartorial decisions are deliberate as she decides which trends to promote. And she could be pushing Vogue editor-at-large Andre Leon Talley's agenda, as last month he declared the high, high heel to be over. Talley called stilettos "towering torture chambers" and said designers need a "reality check." In fact, Talley might be favoring a new style icon, in particular:
Can't anyone take a cue from First Lady Michelle Obama, in the elegant low-heeled shoes she always wears? A flat would be nice. Talley confessed his confusion over why women choose to wear such painful shoes. He pointed to Diana Vreeland, Katharine Hepburn and C.Z. Guest as women who owned all of the grace in the world and lacked any precarious pairs of heels.
He ended with an appeal to today's couture cobblers: Can you stop the madness and dream up a new way to define your silhouette without a needle heel that defies not only gravity but elegance?
