What Will Michelle O Wear? Sophie Theallet Spring 2011...

I chose the two dresses above because I thought they most resembled the first lady's style. WWD described Sophie Theallet's Spring 2011 (another Michelle Obama favorite) line as "old-world Mexican Romance" Watch the video from her collection below and see if you agree.

Photos and Video of Sophie Theallet's Fall 2010 Presentation...

Sophie Theallet, another fave designer of first lady Michelle Obama showed a collection inspired by peasant girls (very nicely dressed peasant girls). Sophie Theallet says that this collection was very near and dear to her as it took her back to her French roots. Lots for the first lady to choose from in this collection.

Sophie Theallet, A Michelle O. Fave Won the 2009 CFDA VOGUE Fashion Fund

Sophie Theallet is this year’s CFDA's VOGUE Fashion Fund winner, with the announcement made by Nicole Kidman and Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz.

“I am French, so I am going to do my best,” said Sophie Theallet at tonight’s annoucement of this year’s CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund. Theallet, with a little break in her voice, said “You make my American dream come true.” She could have been speaking for all of tonight’s winners, because you don’t need to be French to feel that.

Michelle Obama Fave Sophie Theallet is a 2009 CFDA/Vogue Finalist

The best and brightest designers vie for the 2009 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund's grand prize: cash and invaluable advice from industry insiders. Designer Sophie Theallet, a favorite of first lady Michelle Obama is one of the finalist.

"I love when people ask me where I'm going for vacation," says Sophie Theallet. "I say, 'I'm going to Africa!' " In truth, the French-born, Brooklyn-based designer has been so busy with her label lately that she's stayed close to home. No matter. "When you love your job, it's better than a holiday!" She does take a trip of sorts with her spring collection of tribal prints and hot desert hues inspired by the continent. Theallet worked for Jean Paul Gaultier and Azzedine Alaïa, and had a line called Motu Tane before launching her own collection of beautifully made dresses three years ago.

Who Will Michelle O. Be Wearing Spring 2010?

(Looks from a few of Michelle O.'s favorite designers, l. to r., Tracy Reese SS10, Maria Cornejo SS10, Thakoon SS10, Rachel Roy SS10, and Sophie Theallet SS10)

A few of First lady Michelle Obama's favorite designers were in full force showing their Spring 2010 collections at fashion week in New York this September which got me wondering about who she might want to add to her spring wardrobe next year. Out of all of these looks here, I'd have to say designer Sophie Theallet (red belted dress, far right) is coming pretty close to the silhouette that the first lady has a known affinity for. What do you think?

"Ain't I a Woman?" Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton Unveil Bust of Sojourner Truth..

First Lady Michelle Obama, and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton arrived for the unveiling ceremony for the bust of Sojourner Truth in the U.S. Captiol Visitors Center April 28, 2009 in Washington, DC. Sojourner Truth was an 19th century American slave, abolitionist, and women's rights activist who is best-known for her speech, "Ain't I a Woman?"

* WARDROBE UPDATE*
For the unveiling of the bust of abolitionist Sojourner Truth at Emancipation Hall on Tuesday, Michelle Obama chose another new designer, Sophie Theallet, and familiar silhouette (narrow waist, full skirt), reports today’s Women’s Wear Daily.

The choice was especially savvy given that Theallet, a French-born, Brooklyn-based designer who is a 10-year veteran of Azzedine Alaïa (another Obama favorite), was the only designer to use an entire casting of black models for her debut spring 2009 runway show:
“When I was designing that first show, which was before the election, I was just thinking about colors. I think that black models and black skin are very beautiful, and I wanted to express that. When people saw my clothes, they said, ‘Oh, Michelle, she would be so good in these clothes.’ She’s beautiful lady and she is very well-dressed and she looks stunning all the time.”
